Tax deadlines
Key dates: tax calendar 2026
The tax and reporting deadlines owner managed businesses should plan around.
April 2026
Tax deadlines are not just compliance dates. They affect cash flow, staff workload and the quality of the records available for decision making. A useful calendar turns the main dates into planning checkpoints rather than last minute tasks.
Separate filing dates from preparation dates
The official deadline is the latest point at which a return or payment must reach the authority. Internal preparation should happen earlier. Businesses should set their own cut off dates for bookkeeping, payroll changes, VAT evidence and director approval.
Build recurring reviews into the year
Self Assessment, PAYE, VAT, P60s, benefits reporting and company accounts all need different records. Reviewing the calendar quarterly helps the business spot missing information before a deadline blocks progress.
Use the calendar for cash planning
Payment deadlines should be included in the cash forecast, especially where Corporation Tax, VAT or Self Assessment payments fall close to supplier payments, payroll or seasonal stock purchases. A calendar is most useful when it is connected to the forecast.
